La Ermita de San Simon Op. 75/2 – Romance del Conde Arnaldos Op. 75/3 n. 2

L’interesse di Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco nei confronti delle multiformi espressività della voce, unite alle peculiarità del suono della chitarra, è testimoniato da molte opere di indubbio valore scritte tra gli anni Cinquanta e gli anni Sessanta. I due brani presenti in questa raccolta, dedicati alla celebre cantante e chitarrista brasiliana Olga Praguer Coelho (1909–2008), sono datati marzo 1962. Si tratta di versioni per voce e chitarra di opere originariamente composte per voce e pianoforte risalenti agli anni 1934-35. Anche in questa nuova veste, La Ermita de San Simon e Romance del Conde Arnaldos mantengono intatte le caratteristiche salienti della versione originale, e il connubio tra musica e parole risulta equilibrato e avvincente.

Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s interest in the expressive possibilities of the human voice combined with the unique timbre of the guitar is evidenced in several works of substantial value written between 1950s and 60s. The two pieces included in this collection, dedicated to the renowned Brazilian singer and guitarist Olga Praguer Coelho (1909–2008), are dated March 1962. These are specifically adaptations for voice and guitar of works originally written for voice and piano dating from 1934-35. But even in this new guise, La Ermita de San Simon and Romance del Conde Arnaldos retain the defining characteristics of their original versions, preserving the balanced and captivating interplay between music and lyrics.
